Camera Notes

INTERVIEWING:
• What seven items should you bring with you when you are shooting an interview?
(Clocks Tick Tock Making Heads Pound Loudly)
Camera
Tape
Tripod
Microphone
Headphones
Power
Light source

• Shooting into a light source = causes a silhouette


Button to adjust = backlight button

• Where do you want your light source?
behind the camera

• On what object should you focus the camera?
middle of the face, nose

• No tripod= bad

• Date and Time= permanently recorded on the tape


• What's the difference between SP/EP?
sp= standard play on tape
ep= extended play on tape
lp= long play on tape

• Camera shoots in _SP_.

• Pre-Roll-  roll camera 3-5 seconds before you start interviewing


• Post-Roll- roll camera 3-5 seconds after your interview


CAMERA SHOTS:

***BACKGROUND: DYNAMIC= have some depth, not just plain but not ditracting
interviewee is atleast 6-8 feet away from the wall
interviewee IS the shot

• 1 Shot= middle of chest to above the head

• 1 Shot with graphic= middle of the chest to above the head with space to the side for a graphic

• 2 Shot= 2 people framed in. not with interviews

• CU- close up

• MS- medium shot

• LS- long shot

• ECU- extreme close up

• Rule of thirds- imaginary lines dividing the shot into 3 boxes (up and down and across)


CAMERA MOVEMENTS:
• Tilt- moving the camera lense higher or lower


• Pan- moving the camera left or right


• Zoom- changing the focal length of your camera without moving the camera


• Dolly- physically moving the camera on wheels

LIGHTS
• Key- shines on the subject, is the brightest and main light


• Fill- fills in the shadows


• Back- seperates the person from the background


MICROPHONES:
• Unidirectional- picks up sound from one direction
• Omnidirectional- picks up sounds from every direction. internal mics on cameras use omni
• Cardiod- picks up sound from subject but picks up some sound from around the subject (heart shaped)
• Lav/Lapel Microphone- slip on microphone
• Boom Microphone- on a pole, most are uni
